Wisconsin's cultivated ginseng plants are direct descendants of wild ginsengs that have thrived in the same region since prehistoric times.  Many of Wisconsin's ginseng gardeners are direct descendants of the region's first ginseng growers who pioneered ginseng's cultivation in the late nineteenth century.
